There is no reason the Islanders make anything resembling that trade unless they want to try and win the Kings the Cup. Trading 2 SOLID assets for a bottom half first round pick, a 4th line forward, and a non-elite defenseman plus getting eat salary on the deal too. That only happens if DL has blackmail photos on Snow.
I'm not sure that the Isles are going to get very close to what they're asking for Vanek. I still don't think there's much of a chance for the Kings to land him, but they're probably the team who needs him the most and they're not going to offer anything close to the asking price.
I bet whomever gets Vanek will give up a #1 , decent prospect (one who will be an NHL player) and a #2 pick depending on the prospect. If it is a very good prospect then no #2 .
I know this is a lot and I hope the Kings wouldn't do something like this, but I think a team like Anaheim or Detroit would come deadline time as they can afford it.
Because NY has the cap space they can retain 50% so they can trade with just about anyone.
