Real cheap rates at Excalibur for a limited time.
Couple more questions (Thanks for the help)
Would it behoove (lol) me to stay at the MGM or can I go find some crappy cheap hotel and just walk/drive/whatever to the game;
what are average ticket prices for this? Are the LGK tickets all in the lower bowl or do they have some cheaper tickets?
It depends on you. I prefer to pay more and stay at The Signature. Many people pay less and walk or take a cab.
Prices haven't been released yet. LGK usually has both lower and upper seats available. If I remember, lower seats were about $75 and upper seats were abiut $45. Who knows what they'll be this year? The arena is not huge so you do get a good view from the upper seats there.
Where you stay is more of a function of your budget and taste. The farther from MGM you stay, the fewer Kings fans you will see. I typically stay at MGM, but have also stayed at the Trop and Luxor. I wouldn't ever recommend driving in Vegas on a weekend. You can walk if you like or take the monorail, which stops at MGM. mitchrock is right about ticket prices (as of the last couple years). My friends and I get a batch together in the lower bowl in the corner on the shoot twice end of the ice. Not really sure where the upper bowl seats are.
I highly recommend getting a Total Rewards card from the Harrah's properties and doing some gambling at any of their properties. They are VERY giving with their comps. With even very little gambling, they start offering discounted or free room rates at Imperial Palace, Harrah's, Flamingo, and Bally's. I haven't paid for a room in Vegas in years because of this. I even started getting offers for free rooms at Rio, Paris, Planet Hollywood, and even Caesar's Palace after a year of 4 or 5 trips to Vegas. You do need to go every 6 months or so, or your reward points expire. Or you can get a Total Rewards credit card that keeps your TR account active while you're away, just use it once a month and you're building up points to use for anything at their properties. They also start sending you offers to Laughlin, Tahoe, Reno, and Atlantic City. I haven't been going as often, so the only free rooms i can get right now for Frozen Fury is at IP, Harrah's and Flamingo. Hoping they'll give me better deals again after a trip to Punk Rock Bowling later this month.
Oh, and don't ever stay at Imperial Palace. Gambling there is fun, but the rooms are bad and the elevators are the slowest in town.
