I had heard that something like this might be happening sometime last year, then it sort of got quiet. I should have known something was up. As crappy as the ice is sometimes, it would really suck to not have that place around.
This will always be my "home rink" even though I don't live down there any more. Please read the FB post and send a letter if you have ever had any good memory at that rink. That is where my hand almost got broken in a hockey game, where I first skated in my hockey gear, where I skated all the time when I first moved to CA, where Puckboy and I had a million good times. And where the Kings used to practice.
GO KINGS GO!
Played and practiced there often in the 70s. Sad to see it go.
Man, I played against "Marina Cities" back in 1989-1991 when I played Bantams for the South Coast Sabers. I remember watching a handful of LA Kings practices up there back then. I also had a game right after the "Skate with the Kings" event and Marty McSorely was walking by and I handed him my Sherwood 5030 Coffey Curve stick to sign. That place is so classic!
Used to have practices there right before or after the Kings or one of the visiting teams. I've seen so many great players practice at that place. It would be a shame if it disappeared.
I drove by that place countless times when I worked at the Target that's up the street from there.
Not once did I ever go in.
It's a **** hole.
Maybe they can tear it down and build another rink there...one that has level ice, boards that the puck can't slide under, and dressing rooms that are on the ground floor.
