I can see where Russians would have a difficult time with that here. It might be even weirder for them being athletes and having that extra attention. If they had normal jobs and had to take public transportation, they would probably get used to it faster.
Also, my first Russian professor, who spoke 10 languages, said that Russian is the only language where they teach you to complain within the first 3 chapters :-)
