Letting him sit as a healthy scratch is bad asset management. Flipping an under performing UFA for a draft pick and cap space is good asset management.

This feels like a cap move for a coming deal for more defense... I wonder if DL has written off Willie, Matt or even both for the year.

Hated how Gagne was being used and I'm also not a fan of the trade. It's probably because I was a big fan of Gagne and didn't want to see him go.

From what I understand, DL has written off at least Mitchell for the entire regular season.

- Clear up $3.5 million of cap space for a player that isn't in the lineup.
- Get SOMETHING for a UFA-to-be instead of letting him walk for free.
- Already have a more-than-capable fill-in option healthy scratched in Richardson, as well as Toffoli and Stewart in minors.
- Somehow, this is a move that people don't like.
