How is this different from today? An icing happens, there's a faceoff. There's also 2 minute penalties called already for 2 faceoff infractions. I'm missing something here. Hopefully someone can clarify - thx.
Let's say that last season the Hawks ice the puck. They send a guy in there, he stands in, and at the last second, he intentionally commits a faceoff violation. He argues with the linesman, the next guy saunters in slowly, and all together, they buy another 15-30 seconds of rest.

Next season, if the first Hawk goes in and commits a violation after the icing, no second man in. Just 2 minutes for delay of game.

The fine for diving will just be a linesman saying, That's fine.

Thanks! Interesting rule change - I dont' care for it - I wonder what others think. I believe it will lead to an automatic face off loss in the defensive zone cause the defending player taking the ice off will have to be so careful not to commit an infraction cause he doesn't want the penalty. Kinda like going up the plate in baseball and starting with an 0-2 count - you can't be aggressive cause you will strike out.

Didn't Eddie O point this rule out during the playoffs? I think Williams was going to faceoff and he intentionally was kicked out and Kopi came in to take the faceoff? I just remember him saying that Williams was smart to give his team some time to rest a bit.

I don't know how I feel about the change because it's pretty smart to do this. Kind of feel the same way about this rule as the automatic 2 mins for hitting the puck outside the glass because no one touched it.

In addition to this I also would like the offending team to NOT be able to call their time out. They keep committing the infraction...they should not be bailing themselves out like that. The offensive team deserves all the advantage they can get in this case.

I believe that is incorrect... The hawks would get a second face off, but would not be able to exchange players, it would have to be the same player as the first face-off

The way I read it, you still get one free face off violation, you just don't get kicked out. A second violation would be a 2 min minor.
