I love that the Cup goes to Vancouver! Rub their noses in it!!!
"Hockey won't hold still to give you a better look. You wouldn't want it to anyway. It's the action that makes the possibilities endless."
I live in NYC, and when I heard that Dustin Brown was going to Ithaca, NY (a four-hr drive) for his Day with the Cup on Saturday, July 28, my girlfriend and I decided to drive up. There was a public viewing at Ithaca High School (Dustin's alma mater), but unfortunately, we got there too late to get a personal picture. However, Dustin was thoughtful enough to bring the Cup around to those of us who had been waiting in line for hours.
That's my Gretzky jersey!
Dustin took the Cup into his limo, and while we were disappointed to not get a personal picture with the Cup, it was great to see it up close and personally thank Dustin for alleviating 45 years of pain as Kings' fans (24 years for me).
We dropped by the Ithaca Farmer's Market at Steamboat Landing because my girlfriend is an organic foods nut.
The Farmer's Market is located by Cayuga Lake, and is really picturesque. If you ever find yourself in Ithaca, you definitely should check these places out: Great food and beautiful sights!
For lunch, we decided to go to Glenwood Pines Restaurant, which is also located by the lake. Dustin had recommended it on Twitter; not that we expected to run into him, but we figured that we may as well eat at a place that's recommended by a local.
Pulling into the parking lot, the first thing we saw was Dustin's limo. The Cup was downstairs! We ran down to take a picture with it.
Here's Dustin upstairs at the bar, about to leave.
Outside Glenwood Pines with the restaurant's owner (on the right). The owner was really nice to us, encouraging us to go downstairs to see the Cup. He told us that Joe Nieuwendyk had visited the restaurant twice with the Cup ('99 Stars and '03 Devils); Nieuwendyk had gone to Cornell, which is in Ithaca.
I can also recommend the quality of the restaurant's seafood!
The Keeper of the Cup, Phil Pritchard, and me.
What a day! After all these years of losing...
