Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety - B. Franklin.
And I'd have no problem with Bernier starting again... but I was reacting to all the "Quick is off his game" comments.
If "off his game" means he's not putting up the ****ing INSANE numbers that he did during last years playoffs... or single handedly dragging an underperforming team into said playoffs... then yes... he's a bit "off his game". But that "game" is simply impossible to maintain over a full career. If people expect Quick to be the Quick from last seasons playoffs all the time.... then ****ing reserve a seat for him in the Hall of Fame and start getting new plaques made for the Vezina **** cus it's going to be renamed "Quick".
Let the man be "only really really good" for a game or two.
Harumph!
Actually, Doc, I think he's been struggling to find his angles. He's been overplaying some chances and he's actually been looking for his posts now and then.
I'm not blaming him for losses and a goalie lets in a softie every once in a while. And his results so far have really been more about the team's play than his in particular. But he looks slightly uncomfortable out there.
That said, he'll have had 4 days rest going into Friday and he's the #1 guy. Ya play him.
How the hell should I know what the return will be? The guy is a good goalie and hes said he wants the chance to be the number 1 guy somewhere else. We already have a number 1 guy. So, at some point, he's either going to be dealt or he's going to sign elsewhere. If he's happy staying and playing back up for a low cap hit, then lets keep him. I dont expect thats going to happen though. As far as where? Who the hell knows. Washington and toronto seem to be less than happy with their current goalie situations. From the little i know regarding Bernier and other teams, he's well rated. He probably can play a number one spot. There are teams out there that would likely take that chance. I don't expect to get some sort of crazy return for him, but im not of the mindset that we need to. People talk about him being more valuable to us than to other teams, but the fact is, he's not THAT valuable sitting on the bench. He's currently signed at a low cap hit and that is great for us right now, but that wont last forever. At some point we need a true back up there. Somebody who is willing to sign for, and play that roll on our team.
