Thank the Lord we didn't sign Ilya Kovalchuk appreciation thread
Led to Mike Richards trade and Jeff Carter trade and,,,,oh yeah the Stanley Cup. NJ got a bear of a contract and a guy who wants to stay in the KHL even though his team made it to the finals. What a nut.

The irony of us playing the Devils and Kovulchuk being injured whilst trying to play against the 2 or 3 players we covered with his salary is the stuff of legends.

PPh, you reading abt Kovi in Russia? If so, maybe you'll remember a little conversation we had long time ago abt that guy.

Don't forget the UFA we did pick up that summer: Willie Mitchell. Kovy was the big, shiny UFA prize, but Mitchell was the better pick-up for the Kings, as the events of June 11, 2012 illustrated so clearly.

why you gotta bring up old s***?
and just for the record... i actually ended up having much more respect for Kovy with how hard he played despite being injured. losing bugged him... and you could tell that losing to the Kings REALLY bugged him.

Too bad the Kings didn't sign Kovalchuk and keep Schenn and Simmonds.
The Kings would have won three Cups by now if they had.
