I can't tell you for last year, but in the past they did open their books up to one of the members here (a CPA I think) who went over them, the books were clean (I went through a lot of the stuff myself as well) and the Kings did lose money, they were not paying AEG stupid money on rent at Staples etc (which is actually where I thought the money was going), basically, the ticket prices were/are to low.

Fingers crossed we will be going to the March 5th game against the Maple Leafs, we will be with friends from Toronto, when they heard we can pick up good seats for under $200 they were amazed/ecstatic.

Also, I just came across this facebook page, it may not be a bad idea to see if we cannot load it up with likes, if only to show both sides the fans want to see a season.

They did it the year of the lookout, and I'm not surprised they were losing money then. However in the last 8 years league revenue has (doubled?, tripled?) And I'm not convinced that they are still losing money.

The owners are the ones ruining the NHL, because they have absolutely no regard for the game, the players, and most importantly the fans.
A leader would. The problem is that Bettman was not hired to be a leader. He was hired by the owners to do what they want him to do. The second he strays even infinitesimally from being their lap dog, he'll be in the unemployment line looking to collect benefits.

NHL fans not standing for a lockout | Facebook
While it's nice to think that the fans could have some sort of input into this situation, neither side gives a rat's behind about the fans. All the videos, likes on Facebook, follows on Twitter, etc are going to do NOTHING. Players aren't going to take a deal that is bad for them just so fans can watch them play. Owners aren't going to take a deal that could see them lose money for the fans sake either. Besides, if the owners take a bad deal, the price for things like tickets, merchandise, concessions, and parking will go up to offset any loss they would take in the CBA.

I've seen people say "Oh, fans should boycott any company that advertises with the NHL or their respective teams to send a message." Off the top of my head, I'd need to get a new car, new car insurance company, break existing contracts on my internet/tv/phone providers, cancel a credit card, and get a new computer. That's not including the small things like no longer drinking certain beverages, shopping at certain stores, etc. I'm not going to buy a new computer and pay early termination fees on contracts to send a message to the NHL, let alone sell my car and buy a new one. That's why a boycott wouldn't work.

My only comment on this would be, while league revenues have increased, how much has the Kings payroll increased during that period? It's not like revenues have increased and costs have stayed the same.

From CapGeek.com (which only goes back to the 08-09 season)
    Code:
    Year Salary Cap Hit
    2008-2009	$39,340,833	$44,239,200
    2009-2010	$65,191,666	$54,050,509
    2010-2011	$70,771,583 $59,316,825
    2011-2012	$71,485,703 $63,671,202
    2012-2013	$64,895,000	$62,320,227
If I really cared I'm sure I could find the data for price increases, jersey sales, and other stuff, but I don't.

Also, A lot of what Philip Propper wrote was very interesting, but he also glossed over some important details in his original report.

    There's zero revenue when there's a lockout.

I think they've figured that one out.

Then a lockout shouldn't even be an option, yet it is.

Less Canucks, more Kings...especially towards the end.

    Cute, but pointless.

Get mad, grrr. Big bad league won't let us play hockey.

I mean local chuckleheads Surly & Scribe's recent tweets sum it up best.

"12 days before I #unfollowthenhl. I hope to see thousands of others join me. We can bring @NHL follows to nothing in protest. #nolockout"

Oooooh yeah, this is a good idea. Let's unfollow @NHL! They'll be cut down to size when their twitter account loses some followers!

This was followed eight hours later by:

"Do @NHL owners realize the wrath that will envelop them if there is a lockout? They really think fans will sit quietly? @NHLPA"

Well... what are we going to do? Besides rise against the machine and UNFOLLOW THEM ON TWITTER I mean?

If this labor dispute is the straw that breaks the camel's back for you and you boycott the sport of hockey forever moving forward, good for you. It isn't going to make any difference in the big picture whatsoever, but if it makes you happy knowing you are standing up for what you believe in, right on.

As for the rest of us, we'll be bummed out until they sort **** out, and be back to watching and rooting our team on when they do.

To Surly & Scribe's defense, as lame as their call to action was, at least it was a call to action. "Get Mad" and "Unite"... uh, okay. I'll get right on that.
