Oh, look. Pierre Lebrun seems to think the same way:
I personally wonder whether a delayed start to the season wouldn’t, in some twisted way, actually help the Kings. Players on the past few Stanley Cup champions have told me that the short summer hasn’t allowed their bodies to totally recharge in time for the start of the next season. Heck, Duncan Keith of the Blackhawks told me that the year after they won the Cup his body was never quite 100 percent recovered from the Cup year. So having said all that, perhaps scrapping October wouldn’t be the worst thing ever -- physically -- for the Kings.

And then turned into Drunken Belligerent Idiots all summer as they partied their balls off. They need October just to detox.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Why would there be an asterisk attached to a team that won the cup in a full 82 game season?
Frozen Fury, the only reason you can't wait for summer to end!

Why would the team's winning attitude change when something they have no control over happens to them, as it does equally to the other 29 teams?
I'll give you one silly reason.
I lived and worked in Vegas for quite some time and it's like gambling to me. You're on a roll, don't back off because you can quickly lose that certain something you had going for you and it's very, difficult to get that something back, if ever.
Sound silly? I still compare it to same. It's a gamble any way you look at it.

That there is called momentum, and the NHL as a whole just lost all of it. Good job NHL!

Now, the Kings better repeat if we're going to have go through this bull**** of a lockout.
