    That's the rub. They gotta play through the grind of a half a season and then the playoffs.

    You don't know how they are going to react in a tight 7 game series, and the only way you are gonna know is if they get thrown into one. I don't see that happening unless the injuries hold up during the long haul and Lombardi doesn't get a hulking center to win some draws for the 4th line.

    at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

    this is very true, although we can see Vey's skill level. i know that's not everything, but he has something that can't be taught and we know Lewis doesn't have that. there are plenty of guys that have that skill level that aren't good NHL players so i know it's not everything, but it's a good start.

    at some point you have to find out what's there and why not now? we already know what Fraser is and he's not going to get any better at this point in his career. i think it's worth the risk on Vey but i am partial to skilled guys.
