Vey Has To Stay
After watching this kid for a few weeks I think he has to stay with the big club. I could see a scenario where he is sent down much like Voynov was before the Carter trade if there is a trade to be made, but Vey should play the majority of the games with the Kings for the rest of this season.
Vey gives the "third" line a real offensive threat and his chemistry with Toffoli is undeniable. Clifford is a great compliment to that line and adds some needed size and grit. I think Vey's defensive game has improved and he has held his own on faceoffs, although it's one of the phases of his game that needs improving.
I was especially impressed with the play he made on the goal. He didn't leave the d-zone early which created the turnover and his transition from defense to offense was seamless. He made a great pass at the right time to Clifford. His offensive instincts are very high and I have seen a marked improvement on defense. The first few games his line was running around in their own zone quite a bit, but that hasn't been the case in the last few games.
I know it's a luxury to play Stoll in a 4th line role, but he will still play a lot short-handed and take a lot of faceoffs late in the game to replace Vey.
I was also impressed with Nolan last night as his presence was really missed the last few games. He has really taken the role that we thought Clifford would have and he does it better. He has shown the ability to finish at times and is perfect for a 4th line role.
There is still a hole on LW and I hope Nolan can fill that spot. I like Clifford with Vey and Toffoli and when Frattin returns I like the sound of Nolan/Stoll/Frattin. Carcillo and Fraser are great as the extra forwards as they can come into the lineup at any time and bring energy and grit.
The odd man out to me is Trevor Lewis. I love his speed and he is a very responsible player, but I like Frattin more on the RW and Vey and Stoll more at center. They all bring more offense and similar speed and ability to kill penalties. I know he was great in the playoffs but with him being a UFA I could see a scenario where DL moves him to an Eastern team down the stretch that needs a bottom six center.
i too believe vey has to stay! maybe i can go eat some hay. and make some things out of clay. maybe i'll go lay down by the bay? what do you say?
Just stay out of Vey's way, or you'll pay!

I like Vey. He has the sick & dirty puck handling skillz. Reminds me a little bit of Ziggy Palffy.
He is making a case to stay, and he looks like he is going to be an NHL regular soon. However, he is having all kinds if issues with coverages in his zone. I think some are getting really excited over a couple nice puck plays, but it ain't gonna hurt the kid to send him down to work on his defensive reads.
Any talk of him replacing Stoll is premature at best, and more than a little silly.
This … for now. Let the kid get a real taste of the big time… then send him down to dominate and work on his D reads. He will come back a much better player like Voynov did.

Not yet. He's still a little undercooked. As Mondo pointed out, he gets lost in his own zone quite a bit. You know that doesn't work on a Sutter team. In years past, he would have stuck around. Hell, he would have been in the league for a couple of seasons already. Fortunately, we're past the days of rushing kids into the lineup because the team needs warm bodies. Some more seasoning will do him a world of good.
