Good grief. Lighten up and try googling "rules of capitalization and punctuation." Can the fans file a class action lawsuit against the NHL and NHLPA? Sure. Anyone can sue anyone for anything. However, such a lawsuit would be quickly dismissed and the persons responsible for the filing and their lawyer(s) probably would be sanctioned for filing a frivolous lawsuit. The league and PA have no duty to the fans to refrain from engaging in labor disputes. And, no fan has suffered any damages as a result of the lockout. As far as season ticket holders being "entitled to something," they are entitled to one ticket for every home game and whatever other benefits are part of the package. If you paid for season seats for 2012-13, you are entitled to and have been offered a refund or other options. Everything to which you're entitled you have received or has been made available to you.

I'm sure the contract between nbc and the nhl has provisions for all these possibilities.

Memo to fans: odds are you care more about the nhl and your team much more than most of the people involved.
How many of the owners are the same now as the 05 strike?
How many players are playing for the same team?
As to both questions, I honestly couldn't care less. Right now, I'll tell you what I care about most of all: long-term labor peace. And in my view, the only way to achieve that is for every (or at least every competently-run) NHL team be profitable through its own hockey operations. Just like the NFL. Of course, that didn't prevent a lockout in football either, but there was never really any risk that regular-season NFL games would have been cancelled. That's because the question there wasn't whether every owner would make money; the question was merely how much. But in the NHL, even with its booming revenues, there are still a number of teams losing money. I'm not sure exactly how many teams, or how much money. The league may have furnished this information but there's probably some exaggeration in those numbers and I wouldn't be too quick to accept them at face value. Still, there's no doubt in my mind that many teams are losing money, and some are clearly taking substantial losses. Until that ends, we'll continue to see regular season games cancelled, and perhaps seasons too.

Unfortunately, there's nothing in the deal proposed by the NHL which would correct the systemic problems. The league has made, and continues to make, poor choices and they keep kicking the can down the road. There will be no labor peace until they fix the systemic problems.

Funny that a UNION guy has suggested (and the players APPEAR to be taking his suggestion) to break up the union.

If the NHL could mimic the NFL's revenue sharing model, maybe we wouldn't have so many teams losing money. And maybe the MLB's luxury tax system vs. a hard salary cap is a better way to ensure that the small market teams will have a shot at making a profit every year.

I can't agree that there's NOTHING in the league offers that would correct the systemic problems, assuming we're talking about the same problems. I think there's plenty even in the latest offer that moves in the right direction. For the lower revenue teams, the 50/50 revenue split will dramatically lower the salary cap floor. Getting rid of most, if not all, of the salary cap gimmicks (such as excessively long contracts featuring massive front-loading and/or back-diving, burying players in the minors, etc.) will presumably drive down the salaries of star players, making them more affordable. While it appears changes to the UFA and arbitration systems are off the table, I'd still like to see some sort of mechanism to cap the so-called "second" contracts; that should help smaller market teams keep their home-grown stars longer and ice more competitive teams. And then there supposedly will be better revenue-sharing features in the new CBA, although this money would be independent of a team's internal results of operations.

That would be a start. But the NFL has a national TV contract that's the envy of every other professional sports league; their gate receipts are just icing on the cake. Even MLB relies heavily on TV money to achieve profitability. The NHL won't see that many TV dollars any time soon, if ever. Which is why cost-certainty is a much bigger priority to the NHL, than to the NFL, MLB, or NBA.

    awl.
the nfl has no local tv. try to get the nhl to agree to that
mlb and nba have no hard cap. they have high salary teams, and low salary teams. 50% of franchises in both sports are eliminated from contention before the season starts. try to get the nhl to agree to that.

until the nhl solves their ownership differences between themselves, and not through lower players costs, there will be no peace.
As was pointed out by Marc Cuban in a video, buying into the nhl makes no economic sense as long as there is a North / South conflict.
