I thought I would miss it big-time, but I do not. I waited just shy of 40 years for a Cup win, and I think the fact that they finally did win has tempered the feelings of extreme loss. Now having said that, I most definitely want to see games again this (ahem) season, but I've rediscovered some other interests, so I'm guessing I won't be watching two full games per night.

I miss it. The Kings churning up all the favorites during their SC run was unforgettable. Having Bob Miller along for much of the ride was an added treat. Seeing the Kings vs Wings cancelled today is a serious bummer, the Wings are always a treat to watch. Damn.

Deux votes pour l'AJLNH par Renaud Lavoie - LE GRAND CLUB

By Friday afternoon, members of the Association of NHL players will vote to give the right to dissolve the executive committee of the union.
This is not the only element on which players must decide this week. They must also agree to amend, by vote, the constitution of the NHLPA if dissolution never moves forward. According to two sources, the NHLPA would thus further the status of a union, but asks its members to accept the creation of a professional association, like a medical association.
This would allow players to keep an important basis, as their offices in Toronto, and legal representatives may continue to deal with several issues such as royalties on commercial products.
    CHOICES OF PLAYERS
So this vote continues throughout the week is very important because the negotiations end up in a cul-de-sac. The position of the players is as follows: it is not up to us to make the next offer, but the owners.
So they are left with the following options:
    1-Continue Talks
2-Accept the latest offer from the NHL
    3-Dissolve
No matter what the players will do the league position is clear. The offer is on the table to take it or leave it.
And in the opinion of Talks responsible for the NHLPA, it is impossible to accept the demands of the owners because they are not favorable to players.
1-50% of revenues related to hockey (NHLPA said yes)
2-A collective 10 years, with the option to terminate after eight seasons.
3-contracts limited to 5 years (7 years if a player stays with the same team)
4-contracts can not move (up or down) of more than 5% per year.
5-full amount of $ 300 million to ensure the amounts on contracts already signed, and for the next two seasons.
Also very important point is the following. The NHL and NHLPA do not agree on the system that will be in effect if one day the two parties agree to sign a new collective agreement. Players want a cap on the money placed in trust (escrow), but the owners say no.
In short, as the word NO out of the mouth on both sides, do not expect much in this case, with the exception of a great legal battle.

How long until we all stop following sports teams and just start rooting for different law offices?

    Wow...

I wonder if he ever had the thought that this pose may not make us feel sorry for the struggling NHL player.

Well, with the new CBA, he'll 7% less cash to hold up to his ear while standing on the balcony of a penthouse suite in Vegas.
