Just because something is done the same way year after year (since 95-96 in this case) does not mean that it should be done that way. The NHL season used to be 50 games in the Original Six era. No other hockey leagues anywhere in the world, other than North American minor leagues, play an 82-game season. THAT is a cash grab. I hate it. There is absolutely no rational reason why an NHL season should go 100+ games. Money is the only reason. There is no other. It's the only reason. This game is a lot more like the NFL than the NBA, and those guys play 20 games, max. I would LOVE a 50-60 game season every season so we get to watch more of the top players every game. Every game would mean so much more. Kelly Hrudey said that his favorite season in the NHL by far was the lockout-shortened 48 game season.
