Just because something is done the same way year after year (since 95-96 in this case) does not mean that it should be done that way. The NHL season used to be 50 games in the Original Six era. No other hockey leagues anywhere in the world, other than North American minor leagues, play an 82-game season. THAT is a cash grab. I hate it. There is absolutely no rational reason why an NHL season should go 100+ games. Money is the only reason. There is no other. It's the only reason. This game is a lot more like the NFL than the NBA, and those guys play 20 games, max. I would LOVE a 50-60 game season every season so we get to watch more of the top players every game. Every game would mean so much more. Kelly Hrudey said that his favorite season in the NHL by far was the lockout-shortened 48 game season.

I'm not saying the season isn't long. I'm saying that a short-season feels cheap. If every season WAS a 60 game season, then fine. Also, we've gone from six teams to thirty (an increase of 5x) while games haven't gone from 50 to 250. You think you get tired of seeing PHO six times a year? Imagine if it were 12-15 times.

And Hrudey said that because he said it made it feel like every game is important. Not because it really separated the good teams from the bad.

Again, I know other people don't agree with me. That's fine. I just feel like short seasons are pretend seasons where owners and players have a "well lets get as much cash out of this one as possible". Cutting nearly 40% out of a season doesn't feel right to me. You can disagree though, I'm cool with that.

The killer is the back to back, and 3 in 4 nights. Lose just 10 games, and do away with those.
That's only a 12% reduction. Players have to be used to 12% pay cuts by now.

It would suck for fans but starting a shortened season on the road could be great...and finishing with a whole bunch of home games could be equally as good.

I have my concerns about the Kings on the road. After all, they only went 10-1 in the playoffs last year. :)

I still think we'll see a shortened season. Can't wait to see the first doom and gloom thread after the Kings lose their first game! I miss LGK!

It was also the best season of his career.

I think it is a little premature to say their will be a season anytime soon. At least my wife keeps saying that but i dont think she is talking about an NHL hockey season.
