per Dreger they're back!
Waiting to hear the loud ovation as Fehr and Bettman enter the room....Owners-players only format has been terminated. PA insists the room is open for ongoing negotiations. Not surprised.

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Speaking of Bobby Mac he was right on with this one:
I know whoever wants the shorter deal isn't my favorite.I know PA doesn't like 10 yr CBA - 8 if opt out exercised - but I personally think long term may be only "hook" to try to win back fans.
If there was a 5% rule... these forwards wouldn't be signed to the contracts they are now
According to CapGeek...
Kopitar from 6.5 this year to 7.5 next = 15%
Richards 8.4 this year to 7.6 next = 10%
Carter - 7 (2017) to 6.5 (2018) = 7%
Williams - 3.75 (2013) to 3.05 (2014) = 19%
Brown - 2.4 (2010) to 3.5 (2011) = 45%
Richardson - 1 (2011) to 1.35 (2012) = 35%
Lewis - 750K (2011) to 700K (2012) = 7%
Westgarth - 700K (2011) to 750K (2012) = 7%
Other players on Kings it would hit...
Doughty
Greene
Quick - of course
Bernier
Gagne

The 5% rule is the one I'd want to get away from. 3-4 year deals would be considered long and risky with that. 5 years I could handle as a player considering they are overall a small percentage of contracts let.
Stop reading HockeyyInsiderr. No reputable hockey person said the deal was done. NONE. There were lots of reports they were making good progress but there was still plenty more to do and that's where things would get tricky. And again, no players that I saw said they were coming back. I read that they were encouraged at how things were going but weren't making plans yet. You're reading some funky information.

More precisely, hearing that Thornton and Couture received this kind of notice. #SJSharks

According to source, some of the coaches and GMs have already called/texted players overseas to advise them of imminent return to America.
