Glad our sport is back. Still gonna be weird without David Courtney there, though. Win for DC '13!!!

So what, exactly, did the League or PA "win" in this lockout?
Term limits on contracts?
Check.
Limits of contract salary variation?
Check.
And ugh...that's it? Really?
We spent 113 days over those issues?
Come on!
But really, if someone can give a detailed breakdown of why we had this ridiculous lockout and what the CBA resolved, that'd be great.
another plus, the Kings are good shape cap-wise even with the lower number ($64.3, I believe). The entire team is in place and they're only spending $62,320,227.
At least we fans will not have to worry about a lockout until one of them opts out after the 2019 season! (If I did my math right) Yeah, hockey for 8 years uninterrupted by stupidity and childishness whiny millionaires and billionaires.
NHL and NHLPA reach deal on collective bargaining agreement
Quote:
According to TSN Hockey Analyst Aaron Ward and TSN Hockey Insiders Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun, the agreement features the following elements:
- The players' share of hockey-related revenue will drop from 57 percent to a 50-50 split for all 10 years.
- The league coming off their demand for a $60 million cap in Year 2, meeting the NHLPA's request to have it at $64.3 million - which was the upper limit from last year's cap. The salary floor in Year 2 will be $44 million.
- The upper limit on the salary cap in the first year is $60 million, but teams can spend up to $70.2 million (all pro-rated). The cap floor will be $44 million.
- The 10-year deal also has an opt-out clause that kicks in after eight years.
- Each team will be allowed two amnesty buyouts that can be used to terminate contracts after this season and next season. The buyouts will count against the players' overall share in revenues, but not the team's salary cap.
- The salary variance on contracts from year to year cannot vary more than 35 per cent and the final year cannot vary more than 50 per cent of the highest year.
- A player contract term limit for free agents will be seven years and eight years for a team signing its own player.
- The draft lottery selection process will change with all 14 teams fully eligible for the first overall pick. The weighting system for each team may remain, but four-spot move restriction will be eliminated.
- Supplemental discipline for players in on-ice incidents will go through NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan first, followed by an appeal process that would go through Bettman. For suspensions of six or more games, a neutral third party will decide if necessary.
- Revenue sharing among teams will spread to $200 million. Additionally, an NHLPA-initiated growth fund of $60 million is included.
- Teams can only walk away from a player in salary arbitration if the award is at least $3.5 million.
I guess my 113 day self imposed lockout begins today. I will not be paying to attend a game until 113 days have passed.
The best line I've heard since the announcement was from Bob McKenzie at TSH. When responding to the 8/10 year on the CBA he said it was perfect in that in 8 years it'll be time for him to retire so he won't have to go through this again.
Maybe we should all "quite" hockey the next time they decide to put us fans through this non-sense.

I am lucky as I live in the U.P. of Michigan so I live at least 6 hours from the nearest rink so it's easy for me to say I will not attend any games until next year, but I will watch NHL every night, that I can assure you. I was upset about the lockout but once it is officially over, i will forget about it....

Personally, I don't like this one. What is the point?
I also noted that there was no agreement on re-alignment.

Whichever team wins the Stanley Cup this season should have Scot L. Beckenbaugh's name put on the Cup. Without him, this season would have been lost, most likely. He's the hero in all of this.
