What Does it Take to get Offense/Team Going?
Knowing the Kings have been struggling for offense, it is a mystery of what needs to be done.
That when looking at the stat sheet, the Kings offense ranks 27th in the NHL and 22nd on powerplay.
They even went out and got David Payne, who was suppose to help I believe in this department.
It can't be the leadership or questioning the right character on or off the ice. This team has shown last year they are capable of winning the Stanley Cup.
It is not like the Kings are playing crappy right now or they are in a real hole to where they can't get themselves out of because it is still early in the shortened season though with only 48 games to play (35 remaining for Kings).
So the trade deadline is April 3rd. So there is a bit of time if Dean Lombardi feels like if something else needs to be done. But I wouldn't wait that long because it could be too late.
So the Kings salary cap right now is at $63M with $7M to play with and knowing next season cap hit, I BELIEVE, is to be cut down to $64M.
Kings UFAs and RFAs;
Gagne (UFA)
Penner (UFA, he can walk)
Scuderi (UFA, if not resign for cheaper pay, he can walk too)
Richardson (UFA, don't care)
Drewiske (UFA, he can walk)
Bernier (RFA, trade him)
Clifford (RFA, resign him)
Voynov (RFA, resign him)
Martinez (RFA, resign him)
Lewis (RFA, resign him)
Nolan (RFA, resign him)
Muzzin (RFA, resign him, but low ball him lol, can care less if he stays)
Ellerby (RFA, plz resign him)
However, even knowing so, I say pull a trade soon. Do a unexpected trade that NO ONE saw coming - Make that SPLASH.
Kings trade:
Brown (inconsistent most of time)
Bernier (blue chip prospect projected to be a #1 netminder in NHL)
A mid to maybe mid high Prospect
Capitals trade;
OVECHKIN (He been struggling with them for over a season now and Ted Leonsis is getting frustrated with him. So time for OVIE to have a change of atmosphere)
Now it sounds CRAZY, but the Kings need an offensive juggernaut to get things going.
In order to make this trade happen is if Penner and Scuds do NOT resign with Kings.
So by getting rid of Brown, Bernier, Penner, and Scuds would save the Kings $9.7M-$10M a season right there in order to get Ovechkin.
I know Brown does GREAT in the community and Scuds is off the rails with the defense and leadership he brings...but once again, this team needs an offensive juggernaut.

I didn't read all of that, but the answer is in 3 parts - Go to the net. Win along the boards. Break out quickly.
Don't need new players. Cap doesn't matter.
Just make better decisions on the breakout, win along the boards, and then go to the net.

Kings don't need an offensive juggernaut. Better shots need to come from the blueline, and they need better mobility/puck movement.
The bigger problem is actually poor defensive discipline lately.
And finally, Ovechkin won't go for that package.

Maybe they need another trip to the ice cream shop...

What Does it Take to get Offense/Team Going?
Kings need to worry about controlling the puck in their own zone before worrying about their offense

Remember when the Kings had a fantastic breakout and entry into the offensive zone for the last 40 games of last year? That's what they need to trade for.

You guys probably have no idea who I am because I mostly lurk but I had to comment. I would love to see Ovie in a Kings jersey but I don't see it ever happening. The seats and jerseys that he sells in DC alone are a good enough reason not to trade him.

1. Don't want a pure winger with Ovechkin's cap hit, ever.
2. Yeah, Scuds BETTER take a pay cut if he wants to stick around. So not worth 5% of total cap space at that obscene $3.4 million per.
