pre-game:
-Normally, I would think the Blues would come out in dominant*fashion*after the sweep last season. But I thought that after the Detroit loss on the Backes penalty. Then after the Nashville embarrassment.*
I think the team psyche is a bit fragile right now. There were some positives after the Anaheim*game.*
I actually think the majority of the team's problems can be traced back to poor goaltending. Yeah, there are some questionable decisions with the puck around the blueline occasionally, but guys are trying to do each others' jobs on defense...and its because of a mistrust of the goalie (in my opinion). Hopefully having Halak back (and hopefully playing sharp) will help.
Its nice to be on the good end of the back-to-backs for a while (the opponent is the tired one, and we're at home.) I'm disappointed they didn't get the two points from Anaheim, but at least they managed to force OT.
-With Halak back I see the blues pulling out a victory.
-I think we will see Blues hockey tonight. Halak will make a couple of saves that Elliott has not been able to recently to keep the momentum going. I think this will be a good game. The Kings played a very good game yesterday but Howard stole the game for the Wings. I don't think we'll need that kind of effort out of Halak, but he will need to be good.
-This one could go either way. I'll say 4-3 Blues win but not really confident one way or the other.
-They have taken some steps in the right direction the last two games, this should be a win since they're the more rested team and LA is having defensive issues.
If they were to lose this one I believe it could be a big indicator this team is lacking on ice veteran leadership.
-The Kings have only led one time after the 1st period. Have to step on the throttle early and keep the pressure up until they fold.
-Looks like Elliott's in net tonight.
-Elliott really, really needs to have a good game now...with Halak hurt.

-The vast majority of the team looks sloppy and not a team. It is individualized play and no follow through. The movement of players to cover is poor and the transition is just garbage.
Very sad... we look like we did start of last season with Payne. Did the guys think they are elitist players and forget their defense grinding is what got them to be contenders? I do not see that style of play anymore or cutting off the neutral zone. We used to OWN that neutral zone.
-The Kings are better than the Blues in every aspect of*the game. The Blues could not beat the Kings in a 7-game series without an inexplicable Quick meltdown. This is a depressing realization.
-Lol based on one fairly even period of hockey? Right. Our forwards are better, and our D is on par, better if Doughty keeps up his horrendous play this year. The only advantage they have in terms of personnel is goaltending. I think it's a little early to jump to conclusions. They were great in the playoffs last year, but that was by far the best they played all season. They may not even get a playoff spot.

-I thought it was a good period of hockey. I expect the Blues to be dominant against other teams, but not the Kings. The Kings are a good hockey team. You already know this.
-The Blues played ok but were in no way dangerous. It was weird. They'd have the puck in the Kings zone but entirely on the perimeter for one-and-done attempts. Kings had multiple strong scoring chances, multiple examples of skating quickly up ice with Blues chasing after yet another idiotic offensive blue line stepup that missed.
-Yep they dominate us at our own game.
This team is just laughable to watch right now. I don't even know what to think...I didn't have a good feeling coming into the game and they've done nothing to change that.
-Backes has replaced Perron as the*player*taking the stupidest penalties lately.
-That looked like a clean hit from the side by Backes. Certainly no elbow.
-The Blues are playing nowhere near like they did most of last season prior to the LA series. We are a shell of that team. Not sure where that team went

-Didn't think we played that bad, hopefully we will be due some powerplays in the second.
BTW I like Bob Miller, even though he makes a mistake from time to time he is less partial then most of the other guys.
-Elliott made a couple of*saves, but he would have to be Hasek in his prime with this offense tonight.
-According to NHLN Halak re injured his groin (which we already knew) and they said that Allen will be recalled. So Halak must be going back on IR. I wonder if they tried to rush Halak back because of how bad Elliott has been.
-Ouch. That's a big blow to this team if he's out for an extended period of time and Elliott doesn't turn it around. He played a good first period tonight, though. Made a couple of big saves, which he hadn't done AT ALL the last couple of games.

-If Halak is out for awhile we are in deep trouble. Elliott cannot play this compacted schedule by himself, especially with how bad he's playing now. I like Allen but he is not ready yet, lets hope Halak is back soon.
second period, starting with jeff carter's second goal of the night:
-Jesus Christ.... I hate this.
-This is pathetic. The whole team.
-Here we go again...
-We cannot play d for crap, always allowing oddman rushes and breakaways.
-When we need him to come up with a big save, LOL-iott comes up empty. Repeatedly.
-He made a couple big saves but you can't leave him out to dry that much. A 2 on 1 and a semi break, Carter has found himself alone twice and scored both. Our d coverage needs to be fixed ASAP.
-Not enough backchecking... lack of movement of their feet. Standing and waiting is just not going to cut it. I can't believe they forgot how to play D!
-This is sickening.
This is the least confident I have been in a Blues team in a long time. They just look lottery pick bad.
-Yee ****ing haw...Not even fun to watch.
-Zero offensive pressure. It's all one and done.
-Makes me wonder if Hitch is trying something "new" and not the "trap" for this season. And it just isn't working for them.
-LA has been dominant defensively.
-Man Cole is looking flat... they just skated right through him and into Elliott. I think Elliott is doing okay.... the team just isn't closing the lanes at all. It's just awful positioning.
-This standing still on defense is really working well. Keep doing it Blues. Idiots
-Guys just standing around watching the Kings take shots on goal for 2 mins, looked like a practice. I saw 3 Kimgs standing in the slot and no Blue doing anything.
-Shatty's been our best player.
-Buck's monotone voice perfectly matches the Blues play right now.
-other than the Anaheim game offense has been putrid. We can't even beat team's backup goalies... what are they doing different than the first 5 games offensively..... other than Tarasenko being silent
-Buck's baritone is a delightful high point of this game.

They might need to make major changes. They are missing something and it isn't coming from within.
-Even if the Blues lucked themselves to a win, something is still fishy...You don't just change like that unless Hitch has lost the room. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised...This team has a history of doing just that.

-Has Hitchcock lost this team? They are not playing defense, which is supposed to be Hitchcock's coaching strength. The last goal by Stoll, and all of the play except the first game, is a perfect example. They do backcheck like crazy, but once in the defensive zone the Blues look lackidazzicle to say the least.
-Is it wrong to want the team to goon it up just to see some life in the team?
-Pass, Pass, Pass, Pass, shoot in into the Dman's pad. Go back and chase the puck.
-when do we play*Calgary*or Columbus? Those teams might be more at our level...
-This team is completely clueless in all areas of the ice just now. Their inability to read what is painfully obvious is astounding; falling back far too early, attempting line changes at just bizarre times... everything.
Hitchcock can go on about learning over the past X years, but it is quite clear that he isn't being tough enough. This team has played undisciplined hockey in almost every game this season and there are no signs of improvement in any area. I don't care if he kills this team from exhaustion by running training every offday, but something has to change to drill the basics into these idiots.

-The last 5 games have been very depressing. Was last season a mirage? Adding Tarasenko and Schwartz, and just losing Arnott (and now a too-old Langenbrunner) should make that same team better-not 10 times worse. What is wrong?

Contender?... Not right now. Not even close. They are closer to a lottery team at this point than they are a contender.
-Judging from the comments, I made a good decision to see Passion Pit tonight instead of watching the game. However, seeing that Halak got hurt again, and sounding like Elliott was bad again, maybe we should be in on Luongo.
-Something weird about this team playing with Elliott over an extended number of starts. Play well for a few games then it falls apart. Elliott was great in Nashville and Chicago then things started to unravel. He was good against San Jose in the playoffs then he and the team collectively fell apart in the La series. Not sure what it is
