This is exactly the same Mike Richards from 11-12. He scored 18 goals in 74 games and was a +3. He should have had 35 goals but he's just not a skilled enough scorer to score that many. Or maybe he is skilled enough but does too many tequila shots.

From an outsiders perspective, this is exactly what I thought the Kings would look like in 2013.

By in large, it's the same group of guys that had the Kings offense near the bottom of the NHL in 2012 and struggled to make the playoffs. The Kings won games with a stout blue-line and elite goaltending. This season should be no different. The Kings offense caught fire in the playoffs and the D continued to steamroll everyone, and it led to the Stanley Cup. I don't think that offensive hot streak could have been expected to carry over into 2013...especially with the lockout.

I do think the Kings are a playoff team as long as they suffer no more major injuries (such as Greene). I think expectations among Kings fans are a little too high right now. If LA can manage 3 or 4 goals a game, they will win ALOT and should win the Pacific. But the Kings are not the best in the NHL, or in the Western Conference. They'll have to work for everything and hope to catch fire again at the right time (playoffs).

Try to keep expectations in check, and enjoy what you've got. A very hard working bunch, with arguably the best goaltender and D-man in the NHL. That alone will keep you guys in every game this season. Enjoy the ride & good luck the rest of the way.

Please try and stay in the offensive slump until at least Sunday though...

I don't know what the bellyaching is about, the Kings' offense is in mid-season form.

I'll be drinking MANY stout beers throughout this short season, and especially when the Kings can't score goals; MANY stout beers...

I get it, the Kings don't rely on elite scoring talent to win games, they need to play a perfect team game, five man unit, all that rah rah. I'll continue to patiently wait for them to regain their timing and trust to form their Cup-winning Voltron form of defense and timely offense. I figured they wouldn't even start getting that feel back 'til January was done with. I was worried how Quick would play after his surgery but he's getting better every game, and I thought he was close to midseason form tonight. So at least I can check that off the **** to Worry About list. Richards has been in the right place so many times the past 2 games, but just couldn't connect to knock in the puck. The results aren't there yet, but I'm not too worried about him. Williams looks out of sync, but he's effective in such subtle ways it's hard for me to tell if he's seriously off or close to effective.

I have no logic to back this up but I think the Hockey Gods will smile on us and give us a totally undeserved lucky win against either Phoenix or Vancouver. But not both. And then a loser charity point against Nashville. So in 1 week I'm expecting a record of 1-3-2. But I'll be happy to be proven wrong. Sigh, Kings hockey...
Seriously? Edmonton is very young and still have major things to work on. They WILL be a scary team in another year or 2, but right now no way I would expect them to "whoop" the Kings or most teams.
