Kurri had 283 pts and was -56 for his Kings career in an era of mad scoring (over about 4 seasons). In Kopitar's first 4(and worst) seasons he has 285 pts and -38 with no cup in an era of limited scoring(AND at a time when the Kings were terrible). Kopitar wins by virtue of points. And he did it without heart, leadership ability or talent required of a number 1 center.

I love Kopitar, and he's great by today's standards, but people that only saw Kurri at the end of his career (LA->) don't get how good he was in Edmonton.
Well, this doesn't mean anything. Scoring was MUCH higher in that era...to say Kopitar will probably never reach those numbers doesn't mean he's not as good (or better) offensively. But I'm not saying he's the best two way player in the Kings history. I can't have opinion on this matter since I'm way too young to be the judge here.

Kopitar has a long way to go to become either Kurri or Goring.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Not to be the Kurri who was a member of the Kings (as others have pointed out) but certainly to be the Kurri for the entirety of his time in the NHL. For those saying Kurri, are you saying Paul Coffey is the best offensive defenseman the Kings have ever had? He probably wasn't even the best in 92-93 when he was on the team but certainly when looking at careers.........

How Pat Conacher isn't on this list disgusts me!

But, I agree with most that Kurri is at the top. Anze surpassing all Kurri has done will be a surprise to me but not a great surprise. The only part that would surprise me is that it actually happens given today's style of play.

When your career high in points is 28 and 17 I have a hard time calling you a great two way player.

Kurri was my first thought, too, but I thought everyone would think I was crazy if I put that. My husband went for Goring. We both put Charlie Simmer in 2nd place.

Props to Kopi, though, too....could easily move into 1st place with a good season (this year, please!)
