Thread: Who Else is Disappointed they Won't/Didn't Use D. Courtney's Voice?

I was kinda hoping in addition to the brief (too brief? for a guy who did like 40 years with the Kings?) memorial, they'd have Courtney's voice as the pump-up welcome greeting before the kings hit the ice. At least for the first game, or just a period.

God, this new guy either just doesn't cut it...or he's just not the voice i'm used to hearing. Another thing: Courtney had a way of 'capturing the moment' and the momentum. When the Kings scored the first goal, I was kinda waiting for the announcement (that never came) in a pumped-up voice announcing the goal. The new guy didn't make the announcement, and then hawks got the goal right back.

Yeah, you don't know the value of something or someone until they're gone

He did just fine considering the magnitude of the game and the emotions in the arena. We're all going to miss David Courtney...but Dave Joseph is a-ok in my book. Everyone has a first day on the job and none of us have had to replace a legend on a day when our company celebrates its biggest moment ever. Give him a break.

Ok, ok, i give him a break. ACtually other than not being the last guy, he performed flawlessly. just takes some getting used to i guess

I got home and watched the pre game festivities and when they announced the Stanley Cup entering sections 110/111 I could have sworn it was David Courtney's voice. I even rewinded it back and listened a second time. Sounds like him. Dave Joseph did a good job today. Didn't fumble over words or anything like that. He does radio, so he sounds like a radio guy. Overall, I think he will be tip top once he settles in. Seems good at what he does and will only get better from here on out.

Actually, if you have the banner ceremony recorded, go back and watch as the Stanley Cup is first brought into the arena. Bob Miller directs everyone's attention to the Cup entrance, but then another voice says "Laddies and Gentlemen...The Stanley Cup!"

Wow, of all the things you could be bitching about right now, you pick on Dave Joseph, wow. I think he'll do just fine. Remember your first day at work? Were you prefect? Did you make any mistakes?

How about bitching about how the PP sucked? The lack of energy and urgency from the entire team?

How about how bad the ice was...or that the game started at 12PM? What about the fact that NBC ****ed the rest of us outside of So Cal with about 15 min left in the 3rd, by cutting the feed and going to the Flyers Pens game? That something to bitch about....but no, you have to complain that Dave Joseph wasn't David Courtney...

What are you going to do when the inevitable happens, and one day someone has to replace Bob Miller? Oh my god, what a ****ing nightmare....

Yes, I noticed that, too. But nothing beats starting a period (especially down 3-0) to DC's pump-up welcome. Just sayin', if they didn't use it for the first game as an homage, probably won't happen ever again. Personally I think the guy deserved a greater/larger memorial than the short one he got today. The banner ceremony and opening game situation took away from the in-arena tribute he should have gotten. For god's sake, the guy's been with the organization for longer than bob miller

you know what, it WILL be a nightmare when bob miller gets replaced, just like it was a nightmare when chick hearn died, and when vin scully eventually kicks the bucket or retires. ok, i said it. But i didn't want it to sound like bitching in the way you're complaining about. did the power play and just about everything else suck tonight? yes, but there's rust on everyone's bones and the lines are jacked up and we're missing some key players, so i chose to bitch about something else. by the way i did acknowledge that the new guy did a pretty good job. his main flaw is not being the last guy.

And people thought I would complain about anything...
