    Sign and buy-out?

When a player is bought out, they become an UFA? Can we buyout one of our most expensive, longest term contracts and then re-sign at a lower cap hit?

Its not for this season, the buyout is for next season when they have the new $60M cap or whatever it ends up being. This seasons cap is to remain at $70M.

If the Kings do buy out some one this season(if there is one),I think it will be Davis Drewiske and then they will call up Muzin.

    And a $600K defensive depth UFA-to-be wouldn't be in the Top 20 I'd consider.

I am very curious on what the policy on grandfathering current cap hit contracts in will be.

No one, honestly. Next season we have Scuderi, Penner, and Gagne coming off the books.

I would buy out one of the larger contracts, but have a new contract at a lower cap hit ready to sign....

This is probably the best way to get under the future cap. It would be hard to let go of Scuderi, but maybe by next year, Toffoli or one of the other prospects in Manchester can replace Penner and / or Gagne. I think the Kings should let Gagne walk. As for Penner, if there is a season, it would depend how it goes. Even if he excels, with the lowered cap, the KIngs may have no choice but to let him go. As for Scuds, like I said, it would be very hard to let him walk, but if he must (the ONLY reason being to get under the cap), then maybe Hickey / Muzzin / Campbell / Forbert might be ready by then to take his place. If so, at least Voynov will have more experience by then.
