As for Penner, if there is a season, it would depend how it goes. Even if he excels, with the lowered cap, the KIngs may have no choice but to let him go. As for Scuds, like I said, it would be very hard to let him walk, but if he must (the ONLY reason being to get under the cap), then maybe Hickey / Muzzin / Campbell / Forbert might be ready by then to take his place. If so, at least Voynov will have more experience by then.
I would see how the year pans out before deciding to let Gagne "walk". Didn't his "concussion problem" turn out to be a large growth of some kind on his neck that was giving him problems? he had it removed and came back pretty strong in the finals. I would like to see how he does throughout the rest of the season (if there is one), then decide if he should walk or be re-signed to another short contract.

penner wasn't huge in the playoffs. he was a role player who under-performed during the regular season, and had an above average post-season. don't over-estimate his impact. just sayin' bud. i don't like him either, but he's a good locker-room personality

why give penner another chance? he's already given us a preview of exactly what he will do for us next year. the fact that he's divorced now changes nothing, IMO

Like I said in my previous post, "Even if he excels, with the lowered cap, the Kings may have no choice but to let him go". He is already signed for this "season", however much, if any of it, is played. Beyond that, regardless of how he does, the Kings may have to let him walk to get under a lowered cap.

If anyone it would be Carter. Not because of performance but just because of the length of contract. He won't be worth the cap hit in his mid 30's.

    That being said.........nobody.

I see what you are saying, but no, the Scuds/Gagne/Penner not getting signed makes more sense than losing Carter, take a look at the Kings before Carter, then take a look after Carter, the second line became a true 1B line, there is plenty of young cheaper talent to take the place of the other three, but Carter needs to stay.

Why buyout guys that are still productive and only have one year left on their contracts? Deano re-signed Mithcell for two more years. Scuds has one more year and is still productive and is a great mentor for Voynov. Penner we have for one more year. Let's see how he does. Carter and Richards aren't going anywhere anytime soon and are great together. In 5 years maybe one or both of these guys are traded because some team is desperate, who knows? But we couldn't have won the Cup without them and they help give us a shot at another one. Gange is now healthy and should be more productive this year. He had success with Carter and Richards and also played with Williams in Philly. No need to trade away depth when we have unproven prospects outside of King and Nolan. The depth that the team has will allow for the prospects that should eventually make an impact to properly develop and make the organization stronger for the long term. DL usually makes good choices with the draft picks he has. I expect this group to be a perennial contender for many years.

It makes no sense to buy out someone whose contract is up after this season anyway.

The whole point of the buyout is to allow teams to get away from their lomg term mistake. For example, The Islanders would be able to get away from the Rick Dipietio contract that has him signed for another 9 years.

Carter is great right now. He won't be bought out. But if you had to make a choice, Carter's contrat probably has the most downside in terms of cap hit. He is 27 years old now and is signed for another 9 seasons with a cap hit of 5.272 million.
