EVERY player on this team just won the Cup so EVERY player on this team has SOME trade value.

    Buy out NOBODY.

    Yes, yes...and no.

    Yes, they become a UFA.

Yes, we can buy out an expensive player.

No, we cannot re-sign him. Ya know why? Because there's no way in hell any of the players would agree to it.

I hope beyond hope that Scuderi re-signs. I don't care about prospects, he's the kind of guy you keep. Period.

Penner's divorce was devastating to his season. I don't expect a (prorated) 30 goal season, but I expect 20ish.

    Y
It's baffling to me why ANYONE would want to dump Scuderi. Then again, some above mentioned Quick as well....I guess LGK is BACK!

I don't know how buyouts work exactly, so could you expand your explanation? If the player is bought out, they receive 2/3rds of the remaining value of their contract. If the new contract pays them greater than 1/3rd of that past contract, wouldn't it be a net gain for the player? Im sure im messing something up, but lets say a player has 6 years remaining @ 5mil per, for a total of 30 mil. If they get bought out, they receive 20 mil, and leave 10 mil on the table. If the team then resigns them for 6 years @ anything above ~1.6 per year, they still get that 10 mil over the 6 year period. So, if we resigned a guy at 3mil per for 6 years, he gains an extra 8 mil over the course of those 6 years by agreeing to the buyout.

So what is the obvious mistake im making, because there must be one or teams would do this. I know in the past, teams were still responsible for some of the cap hit, but with these amnesty buyouts, that money comes off the books completely, no?

Speaking of Drew, has anyone seen him lately? Just wondering if he's in shape or if he's been hanging out at Randy's.

I heard he bought several Tim Horton's franchises during the lockout.

I still think the Kings "buyouts" will actually be UFA's they let walk after this year. Gagne (most likely), Penner (possibly, depending on how this season goes), maybe Scuderi (I REALLY hope not).
Nobody has argued for it or that it would be done. I simply stated that if the Kings wanted to use a mulligan, that would be the contract that makes the most sense to use. Nobody thinks they want to or need to use it.

I would try to resign Scuderi before I even think of Penner or Gagne. Solid, experienced, winner, on the #1 defensive line.

I want to see Minnesota use their buyouts on Suter and Parise.

If there are any teams that have 3 worthy buy out options, would they be able to trade us the buyout player for compensation.
Like Player A and a 2nd round pick for our 3rd round pick? And then we buyout Player A.

Can I build a time machine back to 1994 and buyout that stupid Gretzky contract that started this whole nonsense?
