Dipietro and a 1st!
I'm not trying to be obtuse, I just don't understand any conceivable reason why a player wouldn't do it. So far, all you've suggested is that players wouldn't do it, which isn't an explanation. If a player was scared that they wouldn't be resigned after being bought out, that I could see. But i'm basically suggesting that they make a closed door agreement to go through the buyout, resign at a lower cap, and both sides win. Im assuming there will be something in the CBA to exclude this type of situation, because if not, every team with deep pockets and positive cash flow will do this in a heart beat.
The best move the Kings could do now is to buy out Quick and Doughty. These two players are hurting the team financially and have no upside to their game.
I'd buy out Brown just to turn around and sign him to the contract he deserves, thats how good he is.
What's the hurry? Let's see what (or who) unravels...
Precisely.
Remember when Kariya was going to re-sign with the Ducks (and then the Avs) after becoming a UFA? It was a lock. Remember when Eric Belanger had a firm deal to re-sign with the Caps and then didn't?
I'll say it again, it's not about logic...it's emotions.. There are similar (not exact but similar) situations throughout hockey history and this stuff just doesn't happen.........unless you're dealing with Mr. Spock.
Well it its a dead end anyways with the details being linked about amnesty buyouts in Birdman's thread.
Important to remember the two buyouts can only happen in the summer of 2013 or 2014. That's it. Also, according to Pierre Lebrun, it's against the new CBA to buyout and re-sign. Cap circumvention. You buyout a player and he is gone for good.
