Not even that would save them. The vast majority of people there don't know anything about hockey and don't care about hockey.

That shouldn't matter. The vast majority of people in Los Angeles don't know anything about hockey and don't care about hockey and yet..........

Attendance was doomed the day they moved the team to Glendale. The fans, atmosphere, and support was great when the Coyotes played in downtown Phx. Even if they stay and have success, I don't think they'll ever average over 11k actual butts in the seats per game on weekdays in Glendale. I don't think they'd have a problem selling out the weekend games though.

The fans who show up on weekdays right now, are by in large, the diehards. Majority of which know their hockey. It's tough drawing a casual fan from the east valley who has a 2 hour round trip (half of it through rush hour traffic) to watch the Coyotes play the Jackets or Wild on a tuesday night.

Might not be a problem this time next year. I just hope they end up in Seattle rather than QC if they do have to move. I'd have a hard time continuing to root for them year after year if they are playing in eastern Canada.

...more people live in the Greater LA area than in the Greater Phoenix area.

The point remains. You don't need a majority of your population to be aware of your sport. You only need a few dozen thousand.

How far from Glendale are you?

    BTW, thanks for the update.

Which Phoenix, or Glendale, don't have.

That would definitely be a "mind blown" moment if they did.
Alas, to Seattle they go though (to keep the amount of teams in the conferences even).
By the way, I imagined Stephen Colbert saying "Or do they?" when I read your post. Well played sir. Well played.
