Thread: Arizona Coyotes in Glendale for the next 20 years?

I know you guys are celebrating the 3-0 series lead in the Finals right now, but I thought I'd update you on the latest ownership news here in the desert.

City of Glendale has posted an agreement calling for a 20 year lease of Jobing.com Arena to the Jamison Group. The City of Glendale would be paying roughly $324 million over the next 20 years to the Jamison Group for arena management fees, etc. Glendale would be receiving appx $14 million in rent and several million more in ticket surcharge over the next 2 decades....

The agreement also calls for the Jamison Group to attempt to change the team name to the Arizona Coyotes. Makes sense since the team has been playing in Glendale for the last several years, and hopefully, the next 20 years at least.

Possibly. Waiting to see if what Glendale is paying Jamison Group is in line with what any other arena management company would charge. No one seems too concerned about it right now, which has me thinking that the numbers arn't too out of whack.

Congrats, Wile E.! Not done yet, obviously, but if it gets done, it'll be great to keep the 'Yotes down South. Maybe I'll get a chance to come down for a game or two.

I have an irrational hatred for state/regional names for pro teams but regardless, grats to you Wile E if this turns out to be the case.

I agree. It was a no win situation for Glendale. Either way they will lose money in the short term. Keeping the Coyotes at least gives them a chance of making money down the road if Jamison can turn the Coyotes into the same kind of draw as he did with the Sharks.

That remains to be seen though...
