You gave naysay something to ponder for about 4 minutes. He'll love you for... well, that 4 minutes. Then you gotta come up with something new.

That's what I love about English: it's a living language that can be modified at any time by any one to fit their needs.

I would think this guy would be enough of a cautionary tale for every pro athlete...

Avery is the property of the New York Rangers at half his salary because he was claimed off re-entry waivers from the Stars.

His contract is good for the next three seasons following this one.

IF the Rangers wanted to buy him out.... would they have to pay 2/3 of what THEY owe him over six seasons? Or 2/3 of what he's owed on the total contract over six seasons? Would Dallas be forced to adhere to whatever decision New York makes? Or are the two halfs of his contract treated like separate contracts?

    CBA gurus help!!!
Good question, I'd like to know the answer as well. Also, if he is sent down to the minors as well and then called up on re-entry waivers again, can another team pick him up? Would the new team then only have to pay 1/4 of his remaining contract?

Hmmm, and if that team was Dallas, would that mean that they would be paying him at 3/4 of his original contract?

With a quick, early morning glancing of the CBA, it appears that the Rangers would be on the hook for the entire buyout amount. While it isn't explicit, I have implied from 50.9.i.(i) - "the amounts paid under such Buyout agreement shall be included in the Actual Club Salary and Averaged Club Salary (as set forth in this Article 50) of the Club that bought out the Player during any League Year in which the buyout is paid..."

This may have been asked over at HF. I seem to recall that the Stars would be on the hook for 1/2 of the remaining value of the contract, and the new claiming team would pick up the other half. The Rangers would be off the hook. I am not 100% certain on this, but I can't find anything in the CBA.
