As a former (awful) goalie I can tell you that the hardest shot to stop is the flubbed one.

It looks terrible but to react to a fanned shot is a lot harder than you might expect. I'm not all that surprised he missed on poking the puck away, it's something that just happens.
It's not like the puck was bouncing or drifting away from him, the puck was coasting straight at him and then he spreads his legs for the puck to go in. Embarrassing goal.
A fanned shot is hard to stop. A similar comparison in baseball would be a hitter expecting a 100mph fastball, but the pitcher throws a changeup.
Fanned shot or not, Backstrom can't have his 5-hole that open. It's an ice rink, not the Bunny Ranch.
The 5 hole being open would have been fine if he hadn't whiffed on the poke. I may or may not have done equally horrendous things in my time.
