Many more details will come out over the next few weeks (months). But you have to hand it to Balsillie. Bettman has been standing in Balsillie's way for the past few years blocking his Pit and Nash purchases.
I am no lawyer but Balsillie's move really puts pressure on Bettman and the NHL as that group will now have to negotiate with an AZ bankruptcy court. Bettman will have to put on quite a show for the courts to win this one.
Anyhow, here is the website Make it Seven / ; meaning that would be the 7th NHL club in Canada.
cheers
Bettman is stupid. Balsillie has made a substantial offer to buy the team, he has in the past shown how he can support a franchise there, with a building that seats 17K+ for Hockey, and he's got the money to burn.

BTW, its Make it Seven /
Phoenix is NOT capable of supporting a franchise, and there are likely NOT going to be other buyers that are willing to fork out $20M per season to keep that team afloat for long.
That, and its Bankruptcy court, so the NHL is drifting into murky waters here. It could come down to a judge accepting the best offer on the table and approving the terms of the purchase.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

well I still think that Phoenix would be a viable franchise had they not put the arena an hour away from the city...
having said that the league must have a secured interest and will likely take control if they haven't already and keep the creditors paid for the time being... come people I know there has to be a bankruptcy lawyer here... LGK has everything!
Anyone wanna wager on how this team gets moved to the Eastern Conference, and that Tampa Bay gets moved to the West, and then they announce that they are going to move to Kansas City the following season a short time later?
