If Doan and Brodeur both have new homes this offseason, that would be really sad. So rare to see guys go their whole career with one team, these two looked like a few of those rare exceptions.

Agreed. I thought it was a shame when Modano left Dallas. Not enough guys stick with a single team their entire career and it is especially sad when they leave fit at the end. Though to he fair I can better understand why Doan wants to leave, guy wants a shot at the cup before hanging them up.

For sure... and I understand a guy like Modano too, where the team basically was like "we don't want you anymore, retire."

But Brodeur? He has cup rings (3!), tons of money, and a team that certainly wants him back. What the hell would his excuse be?

I just can't imagine Brodeur leaving NJ. If he's hired an agent I gotta believe it's because he wants a 2-year deal and the Devils only want to give him a 1-year deal. Or maybe it's a money thing. At the end of the day, run to the finals or no, I still have a hard time imagining teams would be lined up to sign him as their #1. A mentor #2, sure, but I don't think Brodeur wants to be a backup, I think he still wants to be the #1 work horse.

    Default Kovalchuk signing repercussions?

I know the financial situation over in New Jersey is a big part of the unstable situation, but I can't help but think that the Kovalchuk contract at the behest of desperate ownership was the beginning of the end for them. Parise is highly likely to depart simply because the Devils can't offer him a contract similar to what they gave IK. Now there's a real possibility that the long-time face of their franchise is leaving right after participating in the Stanley Cup Finals albeit at the tail end of his career. I'm thinking a future 1st round pick in the near future will be quite valuable.

2 year deal huh. Wonder if he just wanted to be sure he got to play another season or what.
