Thread: Capitals Re-Sign Brooks Laich to Six Year/$27 million deal

I'm a happy Caps fan...and a sad Kings fan.

1) Excellent signing by the Caps. Laich is a heart-and-soul guy for this team. Losing him would have been devastating.

2) That's a good price for a good term. The contracts always look high when they're signed but in 4 yrs it will look good when compared to contracts being signed then.

3) Mike Richards scored 62 and 65 points the last two years and some of you are ecstatic that the Kings got him and are paying him "only" a $5.75 cap hit. Laich has scored 59 and 48 points the last two years and will have a cap hit of $4.5. For a guy who is almost as important to his team as Richards will be to the Kings, that's a good deal.

4) The purpose of the lockout wasn't to lower salaries. It was to bring cost certainty and prevent a small number of teams from acquiring too much of the talent. These contracts don't change any of that.
