Nice way to treat Marleau. Just trade him already because it's obvious SJ doesn't want him. I'd take Marleau.

Wilson's job is on the line... it's now or never for his Sharks, which is why i couldn't see them moving Marleau at all in the first place... forget about the idea of trading him within the division.

they've GOT to go full battle rattle this season, so i can't see why he'd buy a new oar and then immediately throw the other one in water. one would think that paddling in circles has gotten a little old... i'm sure it has to the owners.

Now that he's the captain, I expect him to become unhappy with his current contract situation and demand a trade.

Please keep in mind that Lombardi chose not to re-sign him, even at $1 million less than San Jose gave him. Seems as though the Sharks are pretty happy with what they are getting from Blake. After he went to the Avs, it was probably a mistake to bring him back to L.A. That doesn't mean Blake is not a good hockey player and a valuable asset. Making him captain was a predictable and logical step for San Jose to take.

He is the leader, however he is not the coach. When a team like San Jose does not win, I will not blame Rob Blake, I would blame all of the players.

With the talent this team has it would again be a huge failure if they do not win the cup this year.

Since most of LGK dislikes Rob Blake it looks like the Karma may backfire and they do win the cup. I hope not but this team again has enough to do it.

Blake is one of the players, and the designated leader by accepting the "C", so the blame will fall on him as much as anyone.

How does a captain fail? A captain's job is to lead, motivate and direct the team. The captain assists in putting the coaches plan into motion and bears some additional responsibility for it's successful implementation. If The Captain is unable to find a way to make that happen he has failed. This does not diminish the responsibility for any of the other players and coaches regarding the failure.

Although the Cup is the "Ultimate Prize" and the objective of all 30 teams...the criteria for a successful season will be different for every team. A winning record, making the playoffs after a sustained absence, etc., are some of the many things that teams have used in the past to qualify their season as successful. Just improving a team's record when compared to last season is a measure of success.

Having said all that, it is true that the team can also fail their Captain and their coach. All are professionals...But the Captain, the Alternate Captains, and coaches are in positions of authority and leadership and all have accepted the additional responsibility for the team's success and failure.

When a team like SJ does not win; the team must share responsibility for the team's failure. BUT the team's "leadership corps" must assume more responsibility as they are the leaders of the team.

Agree, but I also think that while SJ may have great players they just may not have the "Right" players to make it all the way.

Many on LGK resent some of Blake's actions while he was in LA. A leopard does not change it's spots. And while I personally believe that Blake is a poor choice for Captain, given what I saw of him here; I think SJ could win it all...in spite of Blake.

I also hope that SJ does not win the Cup, I hope the Kings do!!!! (As I always do!) Now, that would be a nice demonstration of "Karmic payback".

The Bottom Line is: If a team makes the playoffs they have a legitimate shot at the Cup. That means quite a few teams will have a shot. History has also shown that a team can come out of seemingly nowhere to win it all.

not a mistake to bring him back to LA. was definitely overpaid, but was crucial in jack johnson coming here. and there was no chance the kings would make the playoffs anyway.

So let's see. That's 3 teams that have claimed Blake as a leader with who knows how many coaches. Captain of the Kings twice, assistant captain with the Avs, and now captain of the Sharks. McLellan said he would pick after seeing who would step up in training camp. But I'm sure people on this board know better.
