From my understanding the ducks are on the hook for Carlyle's salary for the rest of the contract. If Carlyle accepts another coaching position within the NHL he would forfeit that salary.Quote:

Just because he's not the coach doesn't mean he isn't still a Ducks employee. Hitchock was still a BJs employee when he got hired by the Blues. The Blues got permission and were able to hire him away...that's probably the same thing that happened with Boudreau and what's happening with Carlyle.

They don't have to pay him if he gets a job somewhere else.

They already fired him from what he was hired to do.
I don't think he signed an all-purpose contract to do whatever bidding the Anaheim Ducks feel like assigning him to.
Going back to that scenario above, if Carlyle doesn't like doing what they want him to do, he quites. Yes, quites.
It's still a free country, I think.
The Ducks still hold Carlyle's rights, period. The Ducks are now paying him NOT to coach the team.

This. IMO there's no way they prevent him from being a head coach for another team. And with Ducks supposedly wanting to save some dollars, what do you think they do when someone wants to take him off their paycheck?Quote:
