Yeah, when there were rumors they weren't making the coaching change because they didn't want to still be paying him to not coach, they'd let him go to save the money.

The players sure need to be thinking about this. I doubt any of them want to play for a dick like Carlyle...but they might if they don't get their **** together for Murray.

Did Washington have to give Boudreau their blessing?
    Link?

    Is that how it works?

They don't have to pay him if he gets a job somewhere else.

    Breach of contract?
They already fired him from what he was hired to do.
I don't think he signed an all-purpose contract to do whatever bidding the Anaheim Ducks feel like assigning him to.

Going back to that scenario above, if Carlyle doesn't like doing what they want him to do, he quites. Yes, quites.
    It's still a free country, I think.

You guys know what a contract is, right? It's an agreement between two parties and if it says that I can remove you as coach and still pay you to be my employee then no, you can't go work for someone else. And you can't "quite" a contract and go work for someone else because that would be breach of contract. Where's tortfeasor when you need him?

Still a free country...you crack me up...

How do you know it says that?
Contracts can be negotiated to say whatever the parties involved decide, within the limits of any bargaining agreement.
Is there a NHLCA (NHL Coaches Association) agreement that states a coach must remain the employee of team as long as the length of the contract?

They may have to pay him as long as the length of the contract, but if he declines to be paid, then where is the breach of contract if he decides to work for someone else?

"Yes, we fired you, but you must sit at home and take our pay and not work for anyone else unless we say so".
    Sounds good, for Communist China.

Nice meltdown in Boudreau's Anaheim debut.

    Thanks Getzlaf!

Well I haven't seen the contract but since that's the way every single coaching deal has worked in all four major sports since the dawn of coaching contracts...I'm pretty sure that's the way his works. Also, I've heard several interviews this week talking about how Bob Murray went to GMGM to get permission to talk with Boudreau on Monday.

And it works that way in the non-sports world too, but since there are so many industries and jobs, the diversity of contracts is much higher. I've reviewed these kinds of contracts and see non-compete clauses, which is exactly what this is and why teams have to seek permission from the fired coach's team to hire him.

Getzlaf? What the hell? I thought it was the coach's responsibility to get the players to play well?

It's Boudreau's fault. He has clearly lost the room and his system sucks.

He should be fired and replaced by a better coach.
