I should have looked at NHLnumbers.com. No, I would not. It's unfortunate, the guy brims with energy and enthusiasm ... yet he's completely lost it on the ice.

Please pick up Cheechoo and put him on a line with Kopitar.

I wouldn't be worried about his 3 million next season. You can always waive him again and someone will probably give him another shot. Picking him up gives you a chance to find something special... if he was just another grinder who has no history of success, leave him alone. In this case, though, he has history and would be worth a free pickup. I would not trade for him, but now we don't have too.

    no. why pick him up?

when i think of heart and character, i think of shane doan, not choochoo. didn't you guys just read lombardi's comments about what he looks for in an addition. he's looking at maintaining solid chemistry.

here we have a former 50 goal scorer that can't score and can't play defense. i don't think that counts as a hockey player.

money isn't even an issue, because picking him up makes no sense.

we're not missing a guy that can't score and is a -whatever.

This. Kings have the cap space to fit his pro-rated number this season without it being much of a hit. If the experiment doesn't work out then you trade or waive him.

I think his upside is too tempting to let pass up. I mean, how many former 50+ goal scorers can you grab off the waiver wire. Besides CBGB said DL was after him and, of late, you can take that to the bank.

That said, if DL and the other GMs take a pass I think it really says something about his stock.

Why pay full price for damaged goods? Cheechoo isn't a 50 goal scorer anymore, it seems like injuries have caught up to him. However if he is placed on re-entry waivers I'm sure someone will claim him at half price with hopes he can return to form, or at least becomes a 20-30 goal scorer. I hope the Kings pass if he's put on re-entry waivers, because that's money that can be used for IK come July 1st.

I believe he's only half price this year -- which doesn't really matter since his number is prorated. So teams would still be on the hook for the full salary and full cap hit next year. So, if this is true, the fact that he is 1/2 price is a real misnomer.

That said, if DL had enough confidence in him and thought he could turn him around, go get him. You never know what the right place can do for a player, just look at Potvin when he came to LA. He was washed up but found new life.

Not necessarily. Ottawa could have been thinking the exact same thing but it's unlikely he'll get picked up and they'll be on the hook for him. Same with Preissing. You may end up having to pay him to play in Manchester.

And if you end up just like Ottawa and you can't trade him? And nobody picks him up on waivers?

There's a whole lot of former 50+ goal scorers DL could pick up who are just as likely as Cheechoo to do it again: Bure, Jagr, Sakic, Bondra, LeClair, Tkachuk, Kariya, Andreychuk, Graves, Sheppard just to name a few.
