On this day in 1993...
....Gary Bettman took office as the first commissioner of the NHL.
And we lived happily ever after

1993 (one of the first things that happened after Bettman was hired) the MN North Stars relocate to Dallas
1994 NHL locks out players, ends up cutting season to 48 games
1995 The Quebec Nordiques relocate to Denver, CO
1996 The Winnipeg Jets relocate to Phoenix, AZ
1999 The Atlanta Thrashers join the NHL
2000 The Columbus BlueJackets join the NHL
2004 NHL locks out players, ends in an entire lost season. It was the first time the Stanley Cup was not awarded since 1919
September 15, 2012 locks out players, ends up cutting season to 48 games
He's a great guy. A real guiding force for our favorite league.
