My solution is WINS/LOSSES and that is it.
You play the game, you play OT or a shootout and one team wins, one loses, no OT losses. So if you play 30 games you are 20-10 or 22-8 or whatever. Like last year Chicago would have been 36-12...LA would have been 27-21...
just my opinion

So Football needs a shootout? Brilliant!

The punctuation on this thread title should be changed to an exclamation point.

The problem I have is if the winner gets 2 points and a tie gets 1 point then teams play for a tie.
As with soccer it's a greater advantage to win because you get 3 points.
It separates the winners from the tiers, so's to speak.
So, play 60 mins, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie.
It makes you play the game differently, more so now that goals are harder to come by.

Now that's an idea I hadn't heard before. It's a damned fine idea. Should light a fire in the last half of third period ties.

That didn't seem to be a problem for hockey in all the decades before the tie was abandoned.

I've bitched and moaned ever since they came up with that little gimmick called a shootout. I really don't care what they replace it with; just as long as they get rid of it.

It's easy to avoid losing an argument when you constantly move the goal posts.

So your solution to the slight change in awarding points is to blow the whole system out of the water with 3 points per win? With 3 points per win, teams could get 100 points and miss the playoffs. (and btw, there's no such thing as a loser point - it's a tie point after 60 minutes)

EVERY game is worth the same 2 points, a regulation win is worth more than an OT or SO win, and a 100 point season will mean something again.
