A Derek Boogaard question

This is a serious question and is in no way meant to come across as insult the man and (hopefully not) it could apply in the future.

Myself and one of my employees were talking, being from New York he is a Rangers fan, we were discussing the Kings and the Rangers salary cap issues, he asked me how Boogaard's death affects the Rangers cap.

I know it isn't exactly the most pleasant of topics, but does the players salary still count towards the cap ?

My thought would be no, but checking capgeeks.com he is still listed for the '11-'12 season.

What is so sad about it? It's just reality. Hockey players are mortal too, and as in any other cross-section of population, occasionally die.

I realize this is reality. Thats whats sad about it. That they actually have a clause in there like that. Hence why I said what I did.
