    I'm saddened to hear #Rangers Derek Boogaard was found dead early this morning. A formal announcement is expected as early as tonite.

    A sad day on the Minnesota sports scene has gotten worse.

    Former Minnesota Wild forward Derek Boogaard was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment on Friday.

    According to the Star Tribune, Boogaard, 28, was found by members of his family. The cause of his death was not immediately known.

    Boogaard played five seasons for the Wild from 2005-2010 before joining the New York Rangers last season. In his career, Boogaard scored three goals, tallied 13 assists and racked up 589 penalty minutes while building a reputation as one of the best enforcers in the sport.

    whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...?! wtf. when i saw the thread title, i thought it was a play on maybe him retiring because of the concussion issue he'd been having. this is a shock. rip boogeyman. :(

    **** Me...I hope it wasn't related to brain injury or some other such thing because then the witch hunt will truly be on. It's a sad thing. Boogeyman was actually important when he played in Minny, I watched a lot of their games...he was beloved and served the all important part of a warning on skates. I think once he started winding up on the losing end of fights/getting injured, that tenuous hold he had on relevance started to slide. Then the Rags floated that ridiculous contract that he never had a chance of living up to. Sad. R.I.P Boogeyman.

    Hurm...not to be insensitive but does that cap space come off of the Rags book? If so, I suspect foul play.
