Hell, for the cost it's a good pickup. We need scoring help on the bottom 2 lines and I know by watching Ponikarovsky when he was here he has the potential to be a hard working puck cycler. Between this and the Kurtis Foster pickup Lou has made some sneaky little tweaks.
The Devils have acquired left wing Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Carolina Hurricanes for the Devils’ 2012 fourth-round draft pick and Albany Devils defenseman Joe Sova, the team announced tonight.
Ponikarovsky, 31, played in the Hurricanes’ 3-0 win over Washington at RBC Center tonight. The 6-foot-4, 226-pound native of Kiev, Ukraine has seven goals, eight assists, 15 penalty minutes and a minus-12 defensive rating in 49 games this season with Carolina.
“We certainly know enough about him,” Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said. “He played in Toronto long enough. We’ve played against him. He brings size. He’s 6-3, 6-4. He’s a left shot and he’s going to help our third line. We just have to get our third and fourth line straightened out and this is one step towards it.”
