Former captain Scott Stevens named New Jersey Devils assistant - ESPN New York

Replacing Larry Robinson w/Scotty is about the best you can ask for. #4 has been a home based special assistant for a few years and you know he spent that time learning from Robinson. He will make a terrific coach and God help anyone who misses an assignment or takes a shift off. Matt Shaw comes from San Jose (by way of The Wild during, surpise, Jacques Lemaire's tenure) and he should help immensely with an anemic power play. Oates finally paid off last year but hadn't done much up till then, and even then the pp was pretty unimpressive. Reading that San Jose has been in the top 3(pp) during his run...so he should help.

Both of these make huge amounts of sense.

Now, I am sure that it's a win for my organization...

Has family in the area and has ties to the coaching staff. I see it as a fair swap. Devils get Shaw(from Sharks) for PP help and Sharks get Robinson for defensive help. Interested to see if they change their system to suit his strengths or if he works with what they have. I wish him well and understand his reasons.

He's actually been serving in a special advisor role with the team, I think, since a year after his retirement. He did not want to travel due to his children, but they are grown up now...so. He has been already doing a lot of coaching with the kids on the farm, and since they should be coming up to the bigs...perfect storm.
