Default Ducks sign Perry to an 8 year extension

Anaheim Ducks sign Corey Perry to eight-year contract extension - NHL.com - News

    wowzers

    8 years. $69 million.

add that to Getzlaf's 8 year, $66 million deal and that's a lot cash.

I feel like these deals just punched Bobby Ryan's ticket out of town

my favorite part of the article: "He is currently serving a four-game suspension for an illegal check on Minnesota Wild forward Jason Zucker."

Agree they have to move Ryan now. That's $17 million in two guys! I mean they had to do it but wow. If they play it right they may be able to parlay Ryan into the Schenn brothers and the Flyers number one this year.

i'd be surprised if Koivu and Lydman were asked back as well.

...and there's the rub. Where are they going to get two point a game forwards to play on the second line who provide leadership and skill and speed...for about 7 million in total? It probably won't hurt them next year, or even the year after...but if they can't find some young talent...

Also, I'd be shocked if Philly gave up both Schenn's and a #1 for Bobby Ryan. That would be a worse trade than when the Lakers got Kareem. Now, Perry for them...maybe. Personally, I thought for sure the Rangers would ante up Callahan and Del Zotto for Perry.

Perry is gonna be 28 in May... i'd be surprised if he ever sniffs at 40-goals again.

per the right deal, trading Ryan can be a real boon to that team.

Dude, Lydman is leaving town. He's been a healthy scratch.

Enough to totally rebuild their 2nd line? Its gonna be rough when the Fins go home.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

If Perry and Getzlaugh get $8+M, what is Kopi worth? 8 year, 9M per? Jesus.

With the cheat contracts eliminated, those cap hits and salaries are starting to resemble reality. The cap better start increasing soon.

Philly probably wouldn't trade Brayden Schenn straight up for Ryan. Plus, that would be an even bigger cap hit than keeping Ryan. My guess is they will go the cheap route and essentially have two 3rd lines next year, and probably promote Lindholm to replace Lydman
