Boston still wins this trade. Kessel wasn't gonna stay there, for one thing, so the Bruins got a great return for him. From Toronto's POV, if you have absolutely no talent or depth on your roster, wouldn't it make more sense to add 3 or 4 players through the draft (2 of which could be top 5 picks) rather than 1 good player? At this point, the Leafs don't just need quality, they need quantity too and with those picks, they could have had a good start on both. Now, the rebuild is going to take MUCH longer. Imagine if Lombardi had traded the picks that turned into Hickey, Doughty, and Moller for Corey Perry back in 2007. That's not a trade you make when you're not at least a playoff team.
