I wouldnt blame burke, lets look at toronto long term, for their past choices...
    03 - no pick till 2nd
    04 - no pick till 3rd
    05 - rask
    06 - Tlusty
    07 - no pick till 3rd
    08 - schenn
    09 - kadri
looking at this, its obvious the leafs dont put much stock in drafting over the last while, and blaming burke seems silly.
I'm not saying kessel's a savior, no one player could really do that for toronto, but he's def. a good guy to start building a team around.

Burke is 100% to blame for trading away 2 firsts & a second, which if you are unaware is necessary to start building a team, like you mentioned.

The TML are like PFC. PYLE, they are both in a world of ****.

What Bomber said. Yes, the Leafs have been horrible at being patient in the past but that's irrelevant to this discussion. Burke could have started something new for the Leafs and built through the draft like every successful team does. Instead he traded away what could be the highest draft picks the team has had in all the years you mentioned proving that he is no different, if not worse than previous GM's. You mentioned Kessel being a good player to build a team around. That sounds fine and dandy, but the problem is they have very few assets to use to build around Kessel. Again, you don't make this trade when you're in the Leafs shoes. You just don't.

Bumping this bad-boy to talk about the Wilson Kaberle "feud."
CANOE -- SLAM! Sports - Columnists - Simmons: Wilson fires shots at Kaberle

It seems obvious that Tomas will be dealt this summer. What do you think Brian Burke can get for 1 year of Kaberle?

Kaberle would be an ideal fit for LA but I don't know if Lombardi is willing to pay the ransom that Burke will be demanding. If I'm DL I center my pitch around Oscar Moller and I throw one of the 2nd tier blueline prospects. I don't think DL can justify moving more than that for a rental.

I don't know. Do we really need another offensive defenseman or a shut down guy? We'll probably need to find a replacement for O'Donnell soon and IMO we can already use another one. And Burke will no doubt be asking for Schenn again.

The Kings ice 3 "shutdown" types and 3 "puckmover" types, nightly. That's the balance that Terry Murray and Mark Hardy strive for on a game-by-game basis.

OD and Jones are gone come July 1. So, adding Kaberle in place of Jones is a major improvement. Swapping out Drewiske with OD is probably a wash. If DL wants more experience on the blueline he can

I don't think Burke will get anything close to a Schenn-level prospect for one season of Kaberle.

I'm thinking that one of Hall, Seguin, or Fowler will look awfully good in black and gold.
