Fortunately I had to go to the store So I wouldn't have to watch the rest of the game also CT.
I am surprised people bag on Levy and Melrose, what about the on ice quality?
It was cool to watch just to see how superior the NHL is.
It wasn't a superb game, but neither did it show any "superiority of the NHL". Perhaps, like Levy and Melose, you're unused to watching hockey on a wide playing surface (the rink at Prague's O2 Arena is especially wide), which makes you draw the wrong sort of conclusions.
Are you people kidding me? I got to watch hockey today, hockey with actual NHL players! If watching the NHL is impossible, then you better believe I'm going to watch the KHL. Maybe I miss hockey more than the majority of the people here.
I saw Kings game last season that were worse than the KHL game. It could be more physical.
Thought it was funny that we forcheck more in pickup. The announcing needs improvement but overall pretty decent
ok I have to watch the replay now just to see what the hell y'all are on about
For one thing, both of those guys seemed ecstatic about stressing how little they know about the teams, players, and coaches. My question then would be, "Why the hell were you chosen to announce this game?" Maybe they thought it would make the broadcast sound funnier, but it came across as condescending. Their main focus seemed general NHL/lockout chat rather than what was happening on the ice. Melrose made it emphatic with a laugh that he knows "Nothing!" about the Dynamo Moscow coach Oleg Znarok, although he's quite a well-known hockey personality in Europe. If you're coaching Alex Ovechkin and the defending Gagarin Cup Champion, you can't be a random guy from the street.
BTW it also became clear Barry Melrose hasn't been following the LA Kings pipeline all too closely. He kept praising Lev's forward no. 71, Juraj Mikus, while not being sure whether he might have played for Toronto Marlies for the three previous seasons, or whether that was actually Lev's defenceman no. 66, also named Juraj Mikus. The forward Mikus was, of course, an LA Kings try-out, is "Ziggy Palffy's disciple" from their mutual hometown of Skalica, and he played a season for the Manchester Monarchs a few years ago. He's been improving a lot in the recent couple of years, as also shown by his advancing from Lev's 4th line to the 1st line since the current KHL season started.
I didn't mind having to listen to Levy's and Melrose's mindless banter at all. I was watching an actual hockey game, and that far out weighed what Steve and Barry were talking about.
Quite a few ESPN viewers said the game seemed boring to them, which I suspect has a lot to do with the announcers' lack of engagement in the actual game. The game was more like a backdrop to their chitchat. ;)
