1. ## "Goals Created" stat

Can someone explain in plain English what the hell this stat is, why it was created and who the hell cares about it???

Goals created; calculated by adding goals scored to 0.5 times assists, then multiplying by team goals divided by team goals plus 0.5 times team assists.

For example in 2006-07, Sidney Crosby had 36 goals and 84 assists. The Penguins as a team had 267 goals and 468 assists. Thus Crosby is credited with (36 + 0.5 * 84) * (267 / (267 + 0.5 * 468)) = 41.57 goals created.

Note that the sum of player goals created is equal to the sum of player goals scored for all teams.
Say what?!

2. Perhaps it was created (or evolved) to prove that goals don't evolve?

3. Note: this isnt a facepalm. My head hurts now.

4. I get the math, but not the point of it.

Yea that's what I'm talking about. I can follow what they're saying... I just don't understand the justification behind saying that's how you determine how goals are created.

I saw Handzus "Create" tons of goals that he never got an assist on just by standing in front of the goalie on the Power Play. Or there was that goal that Richardson(?) caused by chasing the Duck behind his own net and forcing him to turn the puck over to a King who was waiting by the face off dot to fire it past the goalie.

Seems like a pretty ****ty system.

And don't even THINK about their method for "Offensive Point Shares"

Ugh...

6. Who is "they"?
