Will be bought out after clearing waivers. at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Appears as if agreement reached as suggested here earlier.Compliance buyout can be used now on Redden with NYR taking 5.6M cap hit (1/2)...

2/2..NYR would take cap hit even if Redden signs with another team as UFA. This option will be available to all clubs (Mont/Gomez).

With new agreement, 1st buyout window will start prior 2 season opener. 2nd one remains in summer. Cap hit stays 4 rest of this season only

How far do you have to come before an organization tells you not to report to the teams training camp? In a way I do feel sorry for these players but with the amount of cash that is coming to them it is really hard to feel that bad. It is not their fault that the teams overpaid for these two.
I always like giving people a second chance and hopefully they will be able to continue to play in the NHL and prove to some people that they still can play and end their career on a decent note.
I don't feel bad for either side. The teams offered the contracts and should take the cap hit for them. If a team doesn't want that headache, then you don't offer dumbass contracts. And if players sign for that kind of salary, then they should suffer the consequences if they don't produce.
